Long Island is part of New York State, but not technically part of New York City. "NYC" is comprised of 5 boroughs: Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island.

Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island are all on one island. However, the eastern half of this island is known as Long Island, and the western half is made up of Brooklyn and Queens.
