my needs:
1) minimal upfront payment (possibly zero)
2) pay upto £250 monthly (incuding maintnance, insurance, etc)
3) have option to early terminate contract (e.g. after 6 months)
4) dont plan to own the car at the end
5) i would have nothing against a used car if this is cheaper

I would say the only way to get a car with those circumstances would be to get a (well used) car. If I were you, and if you are only planning on having the car for 6 months then I would buy a really cheap naff old car, that has got 12 months MOT and tax on it, and if then it is still saleable when you no longer need it then great, but if it is only fit for the knackers yard - then you probably would have spent less money on it than if you get a newer one. It depends on what you want the car for really
