I think its some sort of coping mechanism. I once dated (briefly) a guy that lived in complete la la land. It was almost like he would make up his own version of reality. It was kind of creepy.

Allowing is not a psychological damage and not necessarily a coping mechanism.

I think that if your usual way to handle situations is allowing, you are granting others the chance to run your life, because it is easier form some people to manipulate and have others do your things in life.

It's not having control of your actions and avoiding compromises.
It is definitely lack of autoesteem and no t loving and caring your inside child. Everybody has one to nurture; but you have to work it out in order to succeed. It is better to get involved in things you like; because you print your footsteps over the sand you walk by.

I think it is some sort of coping mechanism. Obviously, they think the real world is so bad they need to live in la-la land.

According to the Vedic literature, this world is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery. Only one fourth of the souls come to the material world. (the lessintelligent ones) that's us. We are not this body IE; race, color, nationality, religion, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul also known as Krishna, Allah, Vishnu, Jehovah, etc. If we want to get out of illusion one has to reconnect. The quickest and easiest way is to chant the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance from suffering and illusion.) go to krishnaculture. for details. Read Bhagavad Gita as it is translated BY Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada This book gives the purpose to human life and everything one needs to know in life.
