anyone know what u do when your an emo??? my daughter is expressing an interest and i have no idea what they do!! the last I heard....they were all goths!!!

its them weirdos with the spray painted on jeans,
black n pink checks and crazy long fringes,
i think they cry alot and write poems too.
nothing to worry about tho they are actually quite funny,
i work with one n hes crazy!!
they dont cut themselves or anything like that dont worry!

It's another ridiculous label that has way too many definitions.
- emo - short for "emotional." Emo is a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock
- A young person who is considered to be over-emotional about imperfections in his or her life
-Normally a 15-17 year old teenager. Considers themselves to be much more in touch with their emotions than anyone else; whereas they really just feel sorry for themselves. Most emo's will claim to be depressed, or simply misunderstood. They think they are unique, and fail to realise that they actually look like half the teenage population of south england. You can recognise an emo by looking for these general characteristics:
SKINNY JEANS (both boys and girls) The tighter the better. If an emo can hardly walk because of their jeans, then they've reached optimum emo status.
STRIPEY JUMPERS. Normally black and grey. If you're a boy, this should again be worn as tightly as possible. Breathing comfortably is a luxury you may have to sacrifice.
TATTY CONVERSE. Usually drawn on, as most emo's regard themselves as artists.
BLACK LONG HAIR COVERING ONE SIDE OF YOUR FACE. Vision can be compromsised for style as an emo. Try and make it as greasy as possible.
- Person who listens to afformentioned type of music. Stereotypically wears too-small sweaters and tight jeans, black horn-rimmed glasses, and straight black hair, although this is not always true. Sometimes a vegan, sometimes straight edge.
i believe it's a stereotype. unwashed black/drk brown chin length hair with a swoop. sweaters, tight jeans, scarves, everything vintage. permanent look of "im sad and no one understands me" on face. this "look" can work for most people in some degree, you can be an walking ad for GAP one day, and the next day pull off being emo.
It's about a zillion more definitions. Reading these is fun, however I don't really embrace these labels we throw on young adublts. Only makes it easier for other people to generalized us.

they are NOT goths!!
i have lots of emo friends!!
they are considered EMOtional...and those other answers to youre question are pathetic!!
they wear black most of the time. (like me but im a rocker!!)
they dont slit their wrists, dont worry!!
some people are called emo's because they think they are wannabe rockers..
u just listen to emo/rock music, wear black, most have a fringe which they call an emo fringe which is sorta a side fringe.....if she wants 2 b an emo, let her b an emo...but i wasnt saying u wernt letting her be one!!
its just a style,mainly about music, clothes an hair!!

Emo is short of emotion.
It is a "subculture" of sorts that exudes over emotionalism about pretty much everything, including their sexuality. In fact, most of them are bi-sexual.
They are goth-like, but as the song "The Emo Song" goes, "They're just a cheap imitation of goth."
I wouldn't be too worried, it's a phase.

emo is just slang for emotive rock, their not goths. they just like listening to depressing commercial punk rock and have over styled dyed mullet hair with tacky bows and vans/converse trainers, skinny jeans and the rest of the wardrobe consisting of either spots, stripes or checks and the odd studded belt.

an EMo is a kind of goth not a complete goth they might just die there hair black and were normal clothes or wear goth clothes but not dye there hair

no its not goth different emos do different things some cut thur self and some r just posers mi friends pierced thur wrists and 1 of them had 2 go 2 tha hospital cuz it wuz all infected or it hit a vain or sumthin

emo is bassically the new adolescence. its kids finding music that matches their confusion and angst of growing up. i wouldn't be concerned. kids need something to relate to and emo is so emotional and sensitive that they can identify. its also mainstream. just make sure you have solid comunication with your daughter and she will be fine.

i'm no pro at this but its mean 'emotional' bands like Green Day, Panic At The Disco, My Chemical Romance all fall into the Emo category.
