I supposedly didnt make a stop so the cop gave me a citation. I have never gotten pulled over before or anything and I wanted to know what is the best way to take care of it so it wont raise my insurance and wont mess up my record? Also, can I get away with not telling my parents or are they going to find out anyways? Im 20 so its not like im a minor.

You may be able to take defensive driving, and it will not go on your record, and won't raise you insurance. Actually, you will likely get a discount for taking the defensive driving class.

If not, pay the fine and be done with it. As far as your parents, who knows. If you are on their insurance, then there is a good chance they will find out if you do not take the defensive driving class. When their new policy starts, generally every 6 months, their rates may go up. They will then find out that you got the ticket. Rolling a stop sign isn't going to be a drastic rate increase, and if they have been with the same provider for a long time, maybe not at all. It isn't the same as getting pulled over for doing 85 in a 45, or something like that.

If this is your first offense I am sure you can call the number on the ticket, pay a probation fee and get 6 months probation. If you stay out of trouble for the 6 months, it will never even go on you record. And best of all--your folks will never know! Good luck! I've been right where you are!

Pay the fine (you probably can't fight it) and tell your parents (honesty is the best policy and saves a lot of yelling later). A reputable insurance company will overlook one ticket but anymore in a short period may raise your premiums.

Go to court. At your hearing, plead not guilty. At your trial, if the cop doesn't show (they usually don't), you will win and the citation will be dismissed. If he does show, you will lose because the judge always believes the cop. Or, just plead guilty at your hearing and go to traffic school. It will not go on your record and your insurance won't go up.
