NO. I work at a zoo and we get in red fox pups that people take from their dens in the wild (or buy, which is illegal in most states). They are cute and fun up until about 8-12 weeks. Then they start biting and are hard to catch. They tend to shy away from humans, even when tame, so when you reach for them, they will probably attack and bite. Once you hold on to them, they usually won't bite you, but you will not be able to hold on to it for long. These pups were handled by people every day from about 2 weeks old and would not tame down. We left one that was promising to accept human contact alone for 2 days and she completely lost anything we worked on.
If it isn't illegal in your state, it should be. They are wild animals and not every animal can be tamed. With their sharp teeth they can do a lot of damage as well.

Domesticated Red Fox

No, not really. Fox are wild animals and do not make good pets at all. When I worked at the Erie Zoo we used our silver foxes in education programs (they were even on Good Morning America). While they were "tame" and we could handle them I would never have kept one as a pet. They act out of their nature and you must understand and expect that from them. If you are a professional animal trainer it can be done for educational purposes but for the average person, no not at all! It is a wild animal and not a domesticated pet for a reason. I would not recommend it, caring for and training an animal like this is far more difficult and time consuming than you may think. And quite possibly illegal where you live as well. You will generally need a state license and permit to keep any type of wildlife not to mention trying to find a vet with experience in caring for them.

While there is some evidence that dogs may have not all been originally bred from wolves and that foxes may have been bred and formed into various breeds, an actual fox is not a domesticated animal. Domestication takes THOUSANDS of years. "Exotic" animals are not recommended pets. Yes, foxes are cute as hell but the animal's quality of life would be crap. Also, the fox will most likely bite and tear up your home, it's not going to just be able to act like a dog if that's what you're asking, plus foxes live in dens and it's not likely he won't dig out of your yard. If you keep him in a cage, it's about as ethical as keeping a dog in a cage. In the long run it's not fair to the fox. They are adorable indeed, try a pomeranian. It's like a fox that exploded or something.

No, there can not be tamed, they are wild animals and will always have the instinct of a wild animal, no matter how hard you try to domesticate them. They carry disease (mange, distemper, rabies) and only wildlife vets are licensed to treat them. They are protected by state wildlife laws and are not legal as pets.

As cute as they are, they belong in the wild. If someone is selling pups, that means they took them away from their momma in a horrible way and are trying to profit by selling them.

If you don't mind the skunk-like smell, the shrieking noises, the fact they can't be housetrained, the fact they will chew and claw and shred up your place, and that they will either attack you or be so afraid of you that they get sick (or both), and if you don't mind being charged for breaking the law, then sure, risk it.
