A Good thing to eat before sports in general is Pasta. It gives you the energy you need to compete. Bananas & oranges are great , really any fruit. You shouldn't eat Or drink right before you play , one good hit with a full stomach or full bladder could cause internal injury. 2 hours brfore a game with eating and about 15 min. to half hour before for drinking. Consumming small amounts of water while playing is a good idea though, you know, mouth fulls here and there. Water in gereral is a always a plus

complex carbohydrates like grain cereals etc as they provide instant energy and stick with you longer than simple sugars like a candy bar. Heavy meals like steak, as teams used to eat as pre-game meals, before the nutrition experts got involved, only weigh you down and you don;t actually get the full benefit until approx. 5-7 hours later depending on your metabolic rate. Eat light and snack on the light stuff during the game and you'll go a lot longer at a high level. Fruit like banana's are also excellent, as are juicy fruits such as an orange or peach.
