Consumer Reports. CD and MT are both way too political in their ratings. CR buys them from a dealrship just like you or I would and rates them very fairly.

Car or Top Gear are much better magazines than either one of those honestly.

Between those two though, I'd choose Car and Driver.

Consumer Reports is the best and only totally unbiased source of the dry statistical data on reliability. If you are in the market to BUY a car, then it is an absolute essential. That said, in their pursuit of objectivity they have virtually zero passion for driving. Don't look to them for any kind of romantic prose about how a car inspired them. Look to them to see what a scientist in a lab coat thinks of a particular car and how many people per 1000 had a problem with window regulators on the 2002 Chevy Malibu.

The do some slightly subjective, descriptive test drive type reviews but they are evaluating strictly from the perspective of average joe family guy, so the car with more cup holders and an easy-to-clean snack tray for the kids between the rear seats is going to outscore the car with the better slalom results.

If you want a car magazine just to read about cars, you don't want to subscribe to Consumer Reports. You check Consumer Reports Buying Guide out of the library when it's time to go car shopping. It's not for leisurely reading.

What are you looking for
Information on how to drive your car, or how to maintain the car
Car and driver = information to enjoy your car
Motor Trend = how to maintain your car
