Depends really what you want to do, if you want a quick solution, try defragging it or eliminating unwanted or unneeded files, if that doesnt work, look at new processers or Hard Drives. But sometimes that can be expensive (depends on your needs) so if the PC is old (over 4 or 5 years) buy a new PC. You can get some good deals on new ones (sometimes you can buy a new PC for the price of a new part!!!)

1) download spyware remover like SpyBot.
2) run a virus check.
3) uninstall programs not used.
4) make a backup of you files, and reinstall XP, wiping everything out on the computer.
5) be careful of where you are surfing and clicking.
6) don't open email from people you don't know
7) add more RAM
8) clean out hard drive, remove temp. files.
9) get new motherboard/processor.
There are lots of options, the first ones are mostly free, RAM for XP is needed, that will be a huge improvement.
Good Luck!
