I am appalled by the lack of family loyalty, the casual relationships, the utter lack of humanity displayed. I know this is a soap but back to the question asked........is it a true reflection?

EASTENDERS is a reasonably true reflection of east end Londoners, like in the different parts of the US different people have different ways and, "lack of family loyalty, the casual relationships, the utter lack of humanity" Isn't just in Eastenders, it's in the world over.

Haha, i see what you mean! No i wouldn't say that the british are like that.
It is a Drama and i guess the people that write the scripts, can't think of other things that could happen. I mean everything like that happening in one street, it's not really possible, and i don't know whether the directors have had lives like this or not! haha but everyone in Britain is different, and a few "characters:/" in a soap doesn't and shouldn't sum up the whole of britain!

But a good question!

Not at all.
Soaps have story lines for ratings.

its like asking is Friends a true reflection of american life.
or Home and Away for Aussie's.

or judging Britian by Blair or US by Bush.

No, I don't think it is, especially as it is set in the East End of London, where families are very close and loyal to each other. It is just a TV soap and cannot be taken seriously.

Is Days of our lives a reflection of American culture? Of course it is not, the exaggerate the things that normally happen. Things that happen on soaps do happen but are not as common as you are assuming.

not at all, it always snows at xmas, the launderette is open on xmas day, ther whole street is 90% white people. The east end hasn't been like that since about 1900.

In the same way that "Last of the Summer wine" is a reflection on old people!

No more than the other soaps! If they were like REAL life they would not be worth watching would they?
