I love the South--genuine Southern hospitality, great cooking (fried okra, grits, corn nuggets, etc.,) sweet tea, good manners, thriving economy overall, great natural beauty, nice weather. It's great!
I'd live in Texas b/c of the hospitality and unique culture, Oklahoma b/c OKC and Tulsa are cool cities, Mississippi b/c of the beautiful pine forests, and North Carolina b/c of the astonishing beauty.
BTW, I would NOT live in Florida b/c of the flat, boring landscape. I also am not that crazy about where I live now, Kentucky--it's so weird, actually quite cliquish.

Larry P. he's for me: believe me, Kentucky IS cliquish and clannish. In cities and towns alike, if you're not from the local elite or family circles, it's very hard to be respected. I hope you have visited KY and had a better experience.

I just moved to North Carolina from California. I was born and raised in Cali, so NC is a bit of culture shock for me.
Things I love:
The landscape - all these gorgeous trees.
The traffic is nothing compared to out west.
The housing market is a steal.
The people are genuine and very helpful.
The fall season was amazing.
The birds and nature - all the critters in my back yard.
How everything seems less stressful and more laid back.
The hospital care was wonderful.
The public schools (so far) have been fabulous.
Things I don't care for:
Mosquitoes!
Confederate flags.
The food - sorry, but in Cali there is a wider cultural variety. I am not down with southern food.
Good ole' boys that don't have open minds.
Streets that change names many times as you are driving, or streets that change direction constantly because they are old cattle paths.
How people drive into their garages and shut the door without saying hello to neighbors...even though people are friendly, I have noticed they keep to themselves.
So for me so far, it's about 50/50. I am not missing Cali yet and am quite enjoying the peace and quiet in NC.

I love the south, lived there most of my youth. I lived in Florida and wouldn't move back. Yet, there are so many other places I have live that I wouldn't mind moving to again.
I absolutely love North Carolina. The landscape is beautiful, but the summers are very hot, same with SC. Virgnia is also quite beautiful. Alabama, Georgia (northern), all beautiful. It depends on your tastes. I guess the place I would love to live at is NC, up in the Ashville Mountain area. Any further south and you suffer with too much heat.
The best part of the south is the hospitality, they are kind, generous folks in the south, not is such a hurry as here in the north. Their hospitality is limitless when it comes to food, friends, and family. You are greeted warmly, (hi darlin', sweetheart, sugar) and their fried chicken, grits, corn bread, and black eyed peas are the best. Can't get ribs here in the north like that. I miss the south.

I have never been any further then Virginia so I couldn't say for sure whether I'd like it or not. I do love the accents, the manners and Southern cooking (People I know from the South have cooked for me). I'd probably choose North Carolina or Louisiana. I have heard good things about both places, however, I am such an Eastern girl I probably wouldn't be able to survive.

I live in Oklahoma. Its friggen awesome. Most ppl think it would be boring and flat and treeless, but its not at all. Sure it is in western oklahoma, but its not boring. Its really pretty here where i live. I live in the mountains and next to a big lake. Its so awesome.
OKC and Tulsa are cool. I go to OKC about every 2 weeks just to go to horse races or shopping or just w/e. Bricktowns really cool there. Lots of shopping and resturants. The boardwalk next to the Arkansas River in Tulsa is really awesome.

Kentucky? Cliquish??!! Kentucky????!!!!
The only place I would like to l;ive would be Florida. I love the beaches and the landscape is anything but boring. The only thing holding me back is my family is here (CT) and there are too many onion headed trailer people in Fla. Unfortunately.

I LOVE the South for basically everything you said. I probably would stay where I live right now, which is in Texas. I would hate to live in Florida. For some reason, Florida just doesn't feel like it has that Southern home feel.

I have lived in the South, in Arkansas as a kid and I still have family there. I would not move back to the same area, but I would consider other Southern states, like Texas. BTW I like my grits with butter, salt and cheese.

I love the south. Of course, the fact that I was born and raised in Texas probably has a lot to do with that.
I second your opinion on hospitality, cooking, manners, the economy, natural beauty, and nice weather. However, personally I prefer my ice tea unsweetened with a bit of lemon... ;)
Hope you had your black eyed peas yesterday...
