The problem with self righteous is that it often means you are not open to hearing others opinions. If you are always right then what room is there for you to grow as a person. If you are always right than everyone else is wrong and chances are you are judging them for it and trying to change them.
There is nothing wrong with having an opinion and sticking to it, just remember that you arent always right and other people may have something to teach you.

Not when it means you have a closed mind and won't listen to or consider the view points of others. When you just make up your mind that what you think you know right now is right and it's the only right no one else could possibly be as right as you are, and you are no longer willing to learn and grow. That is not a good trait in anyone.

Self-righteousness is a VERY bad trait. It implies that all else -- people, beliefs, cultures, etc -- are beneath the self-righteous one.
No one has the right to believe he or she is superior to another for ANY reason. Period.

Righteousness comes from God, not self. What is "righteousness"? If one is puffed up with carnal pride of self, ego, look at me i am perfect, i am right, I am a self righteous person,etc. they have a problem. If one has been blessed with baptism with spirit and has grown into the perfect man, then he sees Righteousness as . Seeing God in all things, All this is God, all this is God. Righteousness is the awareness of unity with God in unconditional love. Saying, I am a righteous person, I see God in all things. God has blessed me with righteousness.

The definition for self righteous is "Excessively or hypocritically pious."
I think humility is a better trait.

A good trait? Drop the "first stone"(s) from your mind and seriously consider 'robert's answer or not. Life has a way of teaching; one way or the other, you'll learn the answer.

the stand is too tall and the fall is life shattering, the pieces are scattered like broken shells swept by the water currents which tend to take one deep within the darkest parts of humanity and if one is fortunate to have a solid foundation they may or may not stand to walk again.
