Actually, just be honest, but nice about it. Point out that sometimes you notice s/he has bad breath that may signify a medical condition, so maybe they should get it checked out because you are worried about them.

If there's any way you can leave them a friendly note and a package of breath mints, that will do the trick. It only takes one hint from somebody that you have bad breath, and then you know. The only reason you don't do anything about it is if you don't know.

Just tell them. They will appreciate it in the long run. If they have a problem taking criticism then i suggest lots of mints and a good five feet of conversation space.

- I don't know whether to give you a breathe mint or toilet paper.
- Phew. You're about to start a brush fire in here.
- Man, you need a ten pount tic-tac.

well..if your pretty good friends and dont really want to hurt his or her feelings...try telling them in a joking/casual way...i did that with my friend and his breath is breathable now.Although thinking on what to say might take a while.

i wouldn't worry about how to approach your friend, you should just be honest and tell them. If they are a true friend, they will take it well....
