Birth control pills are hormones. Hormones can cause everything from weight gain to acne.
Talk to your doctor about going on a low dose birth control pill.
I was on Marvelon for 8 years with no acne and no weight gain attributed to the pill. Everyone is different so talk to your doctor about what will work best for you.
Good luck!

I worked for a medical company for 3 years where I was in charge of Depo Provera which is an injection that last for 3 months, the only problem with the shot is that it will begin to damage your kidneys and liver after 5 straight years of use. There are a few other alternatives, have her try the patch they have less estrogen in them and may not cause her to get such big headaches. Also there is a good possibility that the pills she was on just weren’t suited for her, have her go back to her Dr. and ask him/her if they know of a better suited pill for her, on top of that make sure you ALWAYS use a condom and to be safe get the ones that have spermicidal lube in them just in case the condom breaks, it’s not 100% but it’s a little better than just using the condom alone. Do me a favor and take a step back and look at the situation, I’ve been with my fiancé for 2 years now and I’ve learned that it’s not JUST the pill that can cause those symptoms, you need to talk to your girlfriend and ask her if she’s depressed in any way. My fiancé happened to be really depressed and she didn’t even realize it because she had gotten used to being so stressed out with life it became normal to her. She was put on Prozac and the moodiness and headaches all went away. Think about it before you blame the pill, she might just be really stressed out! Sit down and talk to her and ensure her that you’re there to listen and if anything is wrong she can tell you, also try and convince her to see her Dr. about any type of stress or depression and make sure that you explain to her that by doing that she is NOT being weak but that all people need help sometimes. It took me 3 months to get my fiancé into the MD to get on Prozac because she was too worried about looking weak to me than getting better. Hope this helped you and if you have any other questions please feel free to e-mail me and I’ll help you in any way I can! Dom.

Birth control pills make you gain weight because they increase your appetite, so you eat more. And if you eat crap food, and don';t do enough excercise to burn it off, then you'll gain weight. So if you eat right, and excercise right, then the pill won't make you gain weight.

You know what? When all is said and done, would you rather gain weight or be pregnant? Sometimes you have to weigh the benefits against the disadvantages. Go with what seems best to you and what your OB/Gyn recommends.
