It is possible that the speakers are too close to the microphone, or they are too loud. As a result, the microphone hears the speakers at a slightly later time as it passes from you to the microphone, to the computer, to the speaker, and then back to the microphone a second time.

You then hear it as an echo. Try moving the speakers back from the microphone, or turn them so they are not facing the microphone when you speak.

It's that old light moves faster than sound thing-e. I am not sure what you are recording, but I would just turn off my speakers or mute them while recording--it won't change anything. I remember from Physics class that, if you were at a concert about 15 meters away from the band (speakers) and I was at home 20 miles away listening live on the radio, I would actually hear the concert before you. Radio waves move at the speed of light and speaker output at the speed of sound. I am a nerd.

The echo may be a product of the software running the web cam you use. Many have a setting that eliminates or drastically reduces the echo -check the cam's software for those settings.

This problem also effects many VOIP systems.

Relatively simple. First, try to position your speakers farther away from the mic. Second, go into your mic's control panel and adjust the levels, try lowering the mic's sensitivity.

If that doesn't help, try buying a headset mic.
