My furnace was leaking the other day, with what I thought was water. Now that it's drying however, it's seems to be a burnt orange color. Any idea on what it was that was leaking??

chances are if it was oil you would know by the smell first. it smells the same as diesel you would be smelling it every time u come into your house. I'm thinking that is water out of your boiler, the colour could be rust or antifreeze in the water.

clear, going in , could turn to a burnt orange as it dries though depending on the surface it is on...any leaks with a furnace need immediate attention by a professional maintenance company.
see to it quickly, this could be a very dangerous situation.

It's probably rusty water if it's orange. You would smell fuel oil and it soaks in differently than water.

Sounds like it is the heating oil. Color is added to the oil so that truckers won't use it in their trucks as It is illegal. It could also be rust. You may have a leak in your plumbing.

Home heating oil is red (#2), and diesel is dyed purple to make sure truckers pay fuel tax.

The color on your basement floor is probably from oil coming into contact with it. Get you entire system checked for leaks before you get sick from it.

a little darker than gas color. Burnt orange is about right. If it has a gassy smell it is fuel oil
