I do, but then I've read the book umpteen times!!!

The ring has to be destroyed, the story is about that journey and struggles to do the destroying etc.

A movie does not have to have a 'point' to be entertaining and meaningful. If it did, then there just wouldn't be many good movies.

to be honest i think its to give people enjoyment and to expand peoples imagination OR jrr tolkien just got bored and there is no point
