OPKs (ovulation predictor kits) should be used in conjunction with charting your fertility (link). They work by testing your urine for the presence of leutenizing hormone. When your leutenizing hormone surges and becomes detectable, that means you are either about to ovulate or just have ovulated, and you should have yourself some sex. Because of this, you need to start using the kits BEFORE you think you will ovulate, and test every day until you no longer get a positive result. It's very important to follow the directions on the kit correctly if you want to have usable results.
