I just had a baby 4 weeks ago and am trying to decide on birth control. I have 3 children and my husband has 2, I am 30 and don't plan on anymore children. I've had trouble before with gaining weight and depression from hormones on the pill, so I am leaning towards the Paragard. Does anyone have long term experience with this? I've read several stories of people that have had it for several months and had it removed because of heavy bleeding and cramping. I'm wondering if I can get past the first few months will it be worth it? Can your partner feel the strings?

I have the Mirena IUD.......and love it. I haven't had any side effects with it except spotting off and on. So far my partner has never felt the strings.

i thank god these were created! before i got pregnant, my periods were horrible, after i had my baby, i wanted some type of b.c., but not the hormonal types.... my doc told me about paragard, so i decided to try it... it has done wonders for my periods, no pain, less bleeding...... i've had it in for over a year now, i've never had a problem with it.... it has never come out, the only cramping i had was right after i got it put in, but within a day or two, it was gone.... now, my doc told me that people who had the original ones (from several years ago, before they modified them) had terrible problems, she told me not to ask women who had had the older version..... the new ones are much safer, my husband never had a problem with the strings, but my doc said if there had been a prob, i could always go back & she could trim it a bit more, & it has so far been effective (it's the only form of b.c. i've been using for the last 15 mos, & i haven't gotten pregnant again) i feel so much better now that i have the paragard, it has helped me out considerably........ if i was you, i'd talk to my doctor some more about it & at least try it, if your situation isn't like mine, & you have troulbe with it, you could always go get it removed at any time, so i'd give it a shot, it could be well worth it for you too
