Your teacher basically wants you to write a normal essay with your opinion on teenage curfews. This means it should be in first person. In your intro, state your side (for curfews or against it?). Think of three reasons why you support it or are against it. Then in each body paragraph explain each reason. Then rap it all up in your conclusion.

Use SPELL CHECK before you finish. Everything counts. The 1st paragraph should be a short, precise version of the body of the text. Who What Why When & Where are the 5 W's you need to get your point across. So, the intro tells the reader what your intent is, the body lays out the details and the conclusion should wrap it all up and offer a soloution. The fewer words you can use the better. Check your own newspaper and see their requirements- like limited to 100 words or less... and read some to get an idea of the flow (not all will be good examples)-
Good luck and God bless!

Wow.. excellent assignment. It is pretty straightforward in the requirements. It is an "opinion" piece... this means it is YOUR opinion (view, ideas, thoughts) on teenage curfews.

First, find out what some teenage curfews are in various towns across the country you live in.... (this is where you take notes). As you research this... you will begin to formulate your own opinion about that particular town's curfews and laws regarding teenagers.

For example; the town I live in requires all teens to be off of the streets by 10 pm every night. We have heavy police presence and parental supervision around the popular teen hangouts... the movies, the high school, the ice cream spot, the park... and teens are escorted home after 10 pm and the parents are fined for allowing their child to be out past 10 pm. Every store and shop owner has the right to "hold" a teen that is seen out of school on a school day... the truancy laws are pretty strict here. If a child is out of school on a school day, they are held by the shop owner until the parent can come pick them up. The parent is fined for not keeping track of their child. After so many "arrests" the parents can actually be charged and have to go to court! The result of these strict laws are that we have been named an "All-American" town, the president of the US has been to our town to commend us for lowering the crime rate significantly (over 60% reduction in crime within the first year) and being an example to other towns across America.

How do you feel about THOSE restrictions? Write down your notes.... then formulate your own letter to the editor that meets the other requirements of your assignment!!

Let me bottom line it for you. An essay expressing a strong, biased opinion, using all the usual rules of English and grammar.
