It's not mean, it's fine to do that but make sure you support the back legs. If you just dangle a rabbit by its scruff, they can kick out and actually break their back. Seriously, their back legs are that strong.

If you are talking about picking the rabbit up by the scruff of the neck (by the hide just behind the neck), then no, that is not mean. Picking a rabbit up by the scruff of the neck does not hurt the rabbit.

It is however not recommended to pick your rabbit up by the scruff of the neck if you plan on showing your rabbit, especially if that breed has a lot of points on fur. Over time, picking the rabbit up by the scruff of the neck can stretch the hide of the rabbit, making the rabbit appear to look fat by having loose fur around the neck.

It's usually best not to pick up an adult rabbit by the scruff of the neck. When picking up rabbits it is best to secure their hind feet so they can't kick out and fall.

Most people will pick up their rabbit by their ears, but I think that not only is it mean to pick up a rabbit by his neck but also dangerous because just like humans, the neck is a very sensitive spot and can be fatal if something wrong with it. Let's see how you feel if someone lifted u by the neck. I would suggest using two hands and pick the rabbit up by his body/stomach and to curl him up in your arms. That way, the rabbit isn't hurt and he is in a comfortable position, like how you would hold a baby in your arms.

Yes. If you pick a rabbit by its ear you could almost kill the cute little rabbit.

No, as long as you mean the scruff and that you use your other hand to support the rabbit's weight(under hind legs).
