College coaches have full control of their program.
Nfl coaches do not.

Remember Herchel Walker. The Vikings traded so many players and draft picks to the cowboy that the cowboy won 3 super bowl and destroyed the Vikings and the Vikings head coach did not even want him because he did not fit in to their offense. So the Viking head coach lost his job because of a mistake by the front office.
George Sefert would find out about deal the 49er's made from the newpapers fisrt instead of the front office. At least in college if you get fired it is because of you and not the front office.

I don't think it's a demotion if you leave the NFL for more money. Take Saben for example, his contract with the Dolphins is 25 million for 5 years, and The University of Alabama is probably going to offer him a contract worth between 45 and 50 million. If that's a demotion, where can I get one?

I'm pretty sure Pete Carroll doesn't feel like he was demoted.

It's a totally different mindset in college vs. the pros. Some coaches handle one better than the other. Very few coaches have shown success at both levels (Jimmy Johnson may be the one notable exception).

I think in the past it used to be that you strive to be a NFL head coach as the top tier of coaching but I don;t think it is perceived like that anymore.NCAA coaches are starting to make NFL like salaries and seem to have longer contract with more leeway as to wins and losses. I think now if you go to a big college it is a lateral move..

No- the NFL and NCAA football are 2 differant challenges for a coach. Also some are better suited for one and not the other. And as other people have noted already...I don't think Pete Carroll minds.

Two completely different coaching aspect's on one hand you have raw talent ready to play for any one or anything just to get a chance on the other you have money hungry people who play for one and only one thing $$$ two different breeds of players means two different styles of coaching there haven't been very many coach's that could coach at top level in both
