like the ones that are supose to keep the drain field open.

You are NEVER suppose to put anything other than toilet paper down a septic....oh and the obvious.... Those treatments are for systems that are not being used. Say you are on vacation for 6 months and there will not be any "natural" breakdown of the waste then you might be able to use such a product. Call a septic specialist. They should tell you not to use it or if they do they will take down your address and wait for your septic to fail!

You need to maintain the bacteria level in any septic tank.
There a number of good treatment products available. I am not familiar with Rid-X, but go to any good hardware store and check out their product line. The better ones are organic. Ask the people in the plumbing section to help you select the best product for you needs.
PS: never put bleach like Javex down your sunk or toilet, Javex will kill all the Bactria in the tank.

My septic man said do not use as the cause your septic system to over work and cause problems

they do work to help settle solids out in the tank and keep them in the tank, if the leech lines are clogged to begin with the only cure is to dig them up. the main tank will still need to be ocassionally pumped out to keep it functional, as to how often depends on its size and fill rate by the users.
