You may not have drivers for the speakers. This sometimes happens after a Windows Update session.........Check Device Manager to make sure the Speakers don't have a yellow "?" beside them. If they do, update drivers.

There's a million reasons why this could be, but here are some simple answers that might help.

1. Check your volume. Maybe the volume is all the way down or the speakers are muted. (It happens to the best of us.)

2. Do you have headphones plugged in? Most computers are hardwired to turn off the speakers when headphones are connected.

3. Check the Device Manager in your computer's Control Panel. There might be a problem with your sound card, in which case reinstalling the drivers could help.

4. Check the computer's BIOS setup. Sometimes there's an option in there to disable the PC Speaker. Make sure that option is not flagged.

5. If your speakers still won't work, try attaching headphones and seeing if the sound plays through headphones. If your headphones work but your speakers don't, you might have blown your speakers. (Though that's unlikely, because in the case of blown speakers generally only one will go out, and even then you'll still get SOME sound from it.)

That's about all I can think of offhand. Try to be more specific with your problem--it's tough narrowing down the list of possibilities with only a general question to work with.

The sound waves wouldn't get to the helmet let alone through the helmet if the collision occured in space and the astronaut was outside of the space shuttle. If something hit the space shuttle the vibrations would conduct through the skin of the shuttle and through the air to the astronauts ears, but if something hit a shuttle and the astronaut was not physically connected to the shuttle he wouldn't hear anything. However astronatus do have radios in their helmet so if the sound was picked up by a microphone inside the shuttle and transmitted via radio to the helmet then it would be heard. Let me look up this Gravity trailer and see what you're talking about. Okay I see what they're saying, the impacts wouldn't be directly heard as the sounds wouldn't travel through space - some of those sounds definitely wouldn't be heard but some might be heard if the radio was on at the time. The sounds that would be heard is the sounds of the vehicles directly involved in the crash where there is direct contact with the source of the vibration but even then the sounds wouldn't sound like what we heard on the trailer but then who cares - it's meant for entertainment, you're supposed to just enjoy the movie.
