If you have ideas, please explain how to do them!! They are no use if I don't know the steps to teach him.

There are many tricks you can teach your mini. There's counting, smiling, pick pocketing, feeling ashame, pick stuff up off the ground, take the hat off your head, play roll the ball, bowing, sitting, playing dead, and many more ideas. There are videos on trick training your horse to teach you to step by step teach them. I believe you should be able to find some of these videos by typing in Horse Trick Training or Trick Training your Horse.

There is an endless list of great tricks you can teach a horse or pony. I teach all of mine to bow when they are young. There is also nodding "yes" and "no", rearing (not a good one), laying down, rolling over (if he is a small enough mini), pawing (another not so good one), sitting, placing their nose on different objects, and picking up things. I had a friend that taught her colt to play basketball. He would pick up a jolly ball, take it over to a little hoop, and drop it in.

If you have good communication you can do anything.

Before you try 'tricks', can you make him move ten steps backwards without moving your feet? Can you ask him to go sideways without touching him? Can you ask you to jump a log with you standing six feet away from it and without touching him or moving your feet? Can he go over tarps? Water? Can you ask him to do a figure eight around cones while you stand on a stool? All of this requires communication, and it's actually very simple if you can be clear in what you want and persistant enough for your pony.

Tricks should be just advancement in communication.

Your pony sounds like fun. Just learn to 'talk' to him and you'll be amazed.
