The original Bill was quite strong and called for the castration of any dog either of a dangerous breed or of mixed breed with dangerous dog in it. The idea was that eventually such dogs would simply be bred out of the dog pop in UK.
The Dangerous Dogs Act was later watered down and so many bits added and subtracted that the Bill got castrated instead of the dangerous dogs.
If you wish to follow up on this, write to, Lord Baker at the House of Lords. He is either mounting a campaign for a new Dangerous Dogs Bill or will certainly support such. Like Lord Baker said on BBC Radio 4 today, "a beautiful girl has been killed by one of these horrible dangerous dogs". He's right. We must act.

More like a sieve - too many holes to exploit. Let's face it, people wanting to keep dangerous animals will always find a way to do so irrespective of the laws. It's the height of irresponsibility to house a dog which may turn nasty if improperly treated.
The question which needs addressing is that of "What kind of people want dogs that can kill"?
The answer is probably "Those of such low self-esteem that they need a vicious animal to front their agressive streak".
The easiest way to police this law is to completely remove the dogs mentioned in the act from existence, making it unlawful to maitain the breed(s).

Most Laws in this country are made by MPs that sit in ivory towers with no conceivable idea on what it is like to enforce the law they ask senior Police Officer who also cannot remember how to enforce the law as they were promoted 100yrs earlier
And all the yuppy legal wizards clap for joy when they look for every loop hole which will make them millionaires at the expense of the working tax payers
Our Legal system is crap !!

dogs that are dangerous should have their mouths tired up, or even put to sleep or whatever that thing is called, if they are a threat to people they shouldn't be out. Especially when kids are about. I heard about the little five year old girls. Bleeding monster. That animal should be put down, and the owner should be fined for not training it and not keeping it under control.

Most laws enacted by (or modified by) Blair are shams:
- £5,000 fines for not sending child to school (yeah, right).
- £1,000 fine for working illegally if an immigrant.(yeah, right).
- 'Life imprisonment' - insult to our intelligence.
- Marching yobs to cashpoints - never happened.
- Getting tough with DSS scroungers - HA,HA,HA!!!!!
There are probably more but I can't remember them.
