What is the oxidation state of the individual atoms which make up a molecule of HCI?

Oxidation state for column 1A metals is always +1, for column 2A +2; for the halogens -1

Determine which of the following statements is true about the electrical potential for various voltaic cells.

Use http://www.chemguide.co.uk/physical/redoxeqia/ecs.html (esp chart at bottom) to solve...the further the metals are apart, the more electrical potential.

A voltaic cell made up of Cr and Al produces the following half reactions Al(s) ---> Al3+ (aq) + 3 e- and Cr3+ (aq) + 3 e- ----> Cr(S)

Line up the equations and sum them. Then cancel any items that appear on both sides of the equation for the complete reaction.

Hope this helps!
