If you're racist, what started you holding that ideology? If you know people who are racists, what types of things do they say/do? I know they say n-word and whatever, i'm talking more about reasoning behind it.

Honest, blunt answers appreciated. This is for something i'm writing. Thanks!

I agree that it starts with the parents and school. If they are not raised with adversity but are instead taught to fear change and people of different backgrounds, they will.
Then sometimes events can spark hate. For example when you are hurt or someone you love is hurt by someone of a specific background, when another person of the same background comes along - you make a choice as to hate them for the actions of another or you choose to judge them only for the actions they themselves commit.
And also I agree that hate stems from low self worth. I cannot visualize a person that is content and at peace with their-self that can harbor such hate for another person without provocation.

I think in most situations it's goes back to how the person was raised. I was raised in a somewhat racist home, but outgrew that way of thinking as an adult. I have worked very hard at raising my two boys without prejudice towards any color, religion or gender. Every generation becomes a little more open-minded and lenient. Look at fashions - what women wear today would shock our grandmothers and great-grandmothers. So we should all hope that by the time we are great-grandmothers, racism is even less than it was when we were growing up.

simple.

birds with the same feather flock together. it's also how they were raised and what they experienced to be the norm of something (like them being part of a majority). T.V. helps a great bit too, by it being a tool to express what's hot or "cool" in the media...and often times, what's shown to the little ones don't embrace diversity or the minorities. Only in some cases they do. Even online, there are alot of racial support groups who might bash other races or not think so highly of them. It's all about where you're from too. Like if you live in the south west or southern belle area.

You have to be taught to hate. I feel that it stems from someone influencing one early in their life, and the ensuing ignorance that causes a lack of introspection to correct the problem. This really saddens me that it is still so rampant in today's society.
