In Japan, on December 8, 1941, the nation received the news that that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. For us, it was Dec. 7th, because the Japanese had to cross the International Dateline. (This is a bit a minutia, but very important to us.)

MacArthur lost most of his far east air force 8 hrs after the attack on pearl harbor. legend has it when Roosevelt found out he said to all his advisers " on the ground on the ground" i cannot believe that MacArthur did not get steamrolled like general short and admiral kimmel after pearl harbor
