I recently had a prescription filled at a local Walgreens where I live. I went on vacation out of state. I ordered refills for the same prescription to a local Walgreens where I was vacationing. The original prescription allowed for 3 refills. When I came back from vacation I wanted to get another refill from the Walgreens where I originally had it filled, however, I was told that one can not transfer the prescription 2 times as it was against the law and I would have to drive 700 miles to pick it up!

This seems strange and quite annoying. Is this accurate? Is this useful somehow?

This is not a law. It might be a Walgreen's rule, but it is not a law. You cant fill a prescription more than once per month, but thats about the only restriction I know of. I would just have your doctor phone in a new prescription. Walgreens = the Devil.

The first answer is correct. It's a Walgreen's rule, not a law. Call your doctor like the first answerer suggested and get a new prescription.

That should not have been a issue unless you are trying to refill the same script before 30 days since last prescription refill

wow that is just crazy.
I find it hard to believe....
I would go to another walgreens and see if they tell you the same story there. I would think if your bottle has the information on it another pharmacy would be able to get the information from walgreens...people transfer perscriptions all the time. This sounds like a great reason to do so.

that's the way it was with my mom's prescriptions only she only made one move.

Since you have more refills on the prescription, I would call the doctor's office and explain what happened and ask that they call your local pharmacy with a new prescription.

Never heard of this. But since they wouldn't give you the meds, must be so.
