Wow, so many pro-aborts in such obvious need of a basic high school biology class. People, the average age of an aborted baby in America is 10 weeks, and virtually no babies are surgically aborted before 6-7 weeks due to the risk of incomplete abortion. Let's just do a quick review, shall we?
3 weeks after conception: A baby's heart begins beating.
6 weeks: She has recordable brain waves and tiny fingers.
7 weeks: If her cheek is stroked, she will turn her head.
8 weeks: She has all her organs. She can suck her thumb.
9 weeks: She will grasp an object placed in her palm.
Hardly a "clump of cells." If you insist on justifying the murder of innocent human beings, at least get informed about the human beings you don't mind killing. ALL pregnancies terminate, some with a live baby, some with a dead baby. The point of an abortion is to stop the baby's heart from beating and yank her out of the womb. If there is no baby to kill, there is no heartbeat to stop and no abortion is necessary. Let's not be in denial here.
I'm afraid I can't answer the original question, not being a liberal (unless being against the war in Iraq qualifies me as one!).

You can cut that check both ways. You have some answers here that would mirror mine, but I agree that abortion should be both legal and rare. The best way to cut down on abortion is to cut down on unwanted pregnancy, the only way to do that is through education, both for parents and the students. Parents need to be taught how to teach their kids "the birds and the bees" and the kids need to have better sex-ed. You cut down on the unwanted pregnancies and the whole issue just disappears because it is handled before it becomes a personal issue to a potential mother.
Death is no punishment, it's just revenge. "You killed _______ you must die." Life in prison is a punishment fitting for rape and murder and other heinous crimes.

I am a conservative but I oppose all forms of state murder: capital punishment, abortion and euthanasia.
I cannot understand how a conservative can talk about the sanctity of life for an unborn child then support the death penalty.
Likewise, I cannot understand a liberal supporting the right to abort an innocent child but opposing the death sentence.
Life is precious. It is given by a higher authority than us and it is not ours to take.
I have never reconciled the duplicity of the state murdering someone for committing murder - and in doing so, the state committing the same crime as they are killing someone for committing. Crazy.
In my opposition to all forms of state-endorsed murder at least i am consistent.

I do not believe that any person of conscience supports abortion; they support a women's right to choose. There is a dramatic difference.
History has proven that capital punishment serves no useful purpose to society. First, dozens of innocent people have been put to death because our legal system in flawed. Second, life in prison with no chance of parole has to be worse than death. Third, with our very complicated appeals process for convicted murderers, it actually costs more to put someone to death than it does to feed and clothe them for 50 years.

Liberals believe that the freedom of a person to have soverignty over their body outweighs most other considerations. We love freedom, part of our idea of freedom is that the government should not have so much power that it is able to kill citizens. No inconsistency here, since the government does not abort fetuses against people's will.

babies aren't aborted, pregnancies are. Look up the definition of abortion. As far as being against the death penalty, it is not a deterrent, ity is crule and unusual punishment, and it costs more to put someon e to death, then to put them up for life. I guess you could say i believe in the constitution. All of it.
EDIT: Hey Ruth, I just answered it. Actually, being consistent with the constitution is the answer I made. And it was a GOOD answer! I believe in my right to privacy, and I believe that no excessive fines or bail, nor cruel or unusual punishment be inflicted. Abortion was never about anything other than keeping the government out of the bedroom and doctor's office.

I suppose because there is a general acceptance - for each side - as to when a life begins. For those who believe that a collection of cells does not a life make - they are supporting the decision of a fully formed life...that of the mother. For those who believe that life begins at conception, they are deeming the mother to be a murderer.
There is no hypocricy here....only a difference of opinion as to the genesis of human life.

I think it has to do with persons having a family, a name and citizenship. Like inter-relationship, conversing, living in inter-action. Need further definition about life, take time to think about life daily.

Capital punishment is a joke!!! 28 years on death row. Most death row inmates died before they get excuted. We need to cut back on the amount of appeals. With the technology we have today DNA evidence ect, we should limit it to one or two appeals at the most then excute! Lets see the crime rate drop!!!
While I don't believe in Abortion personally, I don't want the govenment tell me what I can or can not do with my body. If abortion is outlawed you will see back alley doctors popping up all over the place to make matters worse you will see more people throwing babies in the trash ect. You people throwing babies in the trash, down rivers now with legalized abortion.
The only way to prevent these murders of babies it to make it a total police state for any woman who is able to concieve. Give them pregnancy tests everyday. Is that the kind of America you want to live in?
