not the case for me, exact opposite.... i had HORRIBLE periods before i got the paragard iud......they would last in excess of a week, really heavy, clotting, terrible pain...... i've had the paragard in for 15 months now, not one problem with it...... now my periods last only 3-4 days & are so light! i am so happy i got it..... i realize this may not be the case for all women, but my doc said the new paragard is much safer & more effective than the old..... talk to your doc about this.... & if i was you, i'd try it, but if you're ok with hormonal birth controls, the mirena might be good for you, but the paragard can last up to 10 years....... hope this helps

I have the Mirena and love it. I have not had a real period since getting it. I do have spotting off and on..........but it is worth it to me. My periods before were heavy and painful.
