im teaching myself spanish and wanna know what children means in spanish

hijo if a boy, and hija, if and girl, children(plural) is hijos. The 'h' is silent and the 'j' is pronounced like and h. I hope that helps! Alos Nino is for baby boy, nina, is for baby girl, ninos for (plural) boy and a girl for example

hija for daughter
ninos for children (that are not your own)
hijos for your own children if there is at least one male
hijas for your own children if ther are no males

niños is if there's a mixture of boys and girls or just boys
niñas is all girls i think
