When you say heart I assume you mean the centre of love (in simplistic terms) as apposed to the physical beating organ in the chest cavity.....There are actually a lot a places I can go with this answer, because the question has a great deal of depth...

Quite a few memories from the heart or otherwise are held in our muscles, particularly memories that activated fear or emotional pain. Muscles may become atrophic or develop chronic tension in varied degrees and muscular "knotting". Some of the memories of the heart are released in tears, which is a healthy process of letting go ........ Further more the memories may be held in the breath, in both the way we uptake and release the air.......Heart memories are certainly stored in the physical body in a variety of places, but the purest of the memories stay with the Soul and help to develop the souls intention....

I realise I might have got off Question a bit.........The memory of the heart is the RESULT of the experience of love. Some memories are distorted and some are pure, they may be painful, inspiring or heaven-sent.

Another thought.....One may chose to have dementia of the heart, I would call that Apathy.

I think that what people mean by the "memory of the HEART" targets your soul. "the" memory of the heart is probably your most important memory that targets the soul. What is the soul then? Well the soul is your feelings, your thoughts, just you in general.
Basically, the MEMORY of the HEART is what you think of first when you think of your most important memory.
