1. Try downloading the user guide form HP. Normally there are troubleshooting instructions in the guide.

2. There should be a scan button on the device. See if pressing this does anything. This will rule out a hardware problem.

Some times when you have a printer and scanner in one, There is a conflict on the software, because your computer will treat it as a printer but not as a scanner, be sure that you install all the software that comes with your scanner-printer or remove both software and hardware, the reinstall them.

Like my printer has a copier where you just raise the top and lay what you want to copy in, and press the copy button. The advantage of the copier is if you want to copy something that is not in the printer it's easy to do.

Power off the printer, unplug the power supply, plug it back in.

If it is not scanning to your pc, I would try uninstalling the HP printer\scanner software, reboot, and re-install. It maybe a driver issue.

Go to www.hpstore.com. Home and Office, Support. You can chat with a technician by keyboard or by e-mail, or you can phone service. HP has the best support programs of any company.

go to the HP official website > type your product details in the search box > download the user manual for this product.
This manual should include detailed solutions to problems like,

The HP Director on my psc refused to operate at all after I installed IE7. I erased it from my Comp.IE7 that is and everything returned to normal.
Have you just installed IE7 by any chance?
