You're right.....lying DOES seem to be an accepted practice, and I really don't understand why. If you lie once, you have to tell several more to back up the one you just told. If you forget what you told, then the person knows you're a liar, and loses confidence in you. My Daddy taught me to "tell the truth, if it hurts"! At least that way, you don't have to wonder what you told the first time. I know people that would "climb a tree to tell a lie, rather than stand on the ground and tell the truth"......I can't stand a liar! Tell me the truth, or leave me alone!! Lies are NOT acceptable to me.

The only ones who view this as being acceptable are those who have rejected what God has commanded. In the Ten Commandments, which the ACLU keeps filing lawsuits to remove from public places in the U.S., God said that we aren't to bear false witness (lie) to or about our neighbor. You could also claim that it was OK to murder or steal from someone as well if you went by the crime statistics in the U.S., but God also said in the Ten Commandments that we shouldn't murder or steal.
Probably the real reasons are the Supreme Court rulings in the 1960's that took prayer and the Bible out of the public school classrooms. When the one standard of morality that was in place for over 150 years was removed, there no longer was a guide for people to follow and therefore nothing to keep them from doing what God says is wrong.

Lying is not viewed as acceptable in my life. I know what you are talking about though. Canidates are the worst for this they will look straight in to the camera and lie. We as a society let them get away with this and that is the worst part. I HAD a friend who lied about everything just to get things out of people that he needed.I can not stand this person now.

Lying is a short-cut to many embarassing situations. That is why it is appreciated so much(not accepted). Again, it is difficult, as you have to remember what you said, next time you are going to say about the same topic, so that you do not get caught lying. There is a proverb that lying is a great art until you are caught.
I would prefer to say that instead of lying or not lying, look at the purpose. If you lie for a noble purpose, lying will be better than not lying.
