The basics would be jumper cables, tire chains in winter, a screwdriver and adjustable wrench, and flares. Any other suggestions?

I also carry one blanket, a jacket, an extra pair of pants, and a case of water in my vehicle during the winter. I keep the water in my car in the summer too. Some MRE's aren't such a bad idea either.

Candle and matches, Jake for flat tires, Kitty Litter and flashlight.

Matches always work, lighters sometimes don't.

Kitty litter gives your tires a grip if your in Black Ice conditions and your on a hill.
