or do they split them with other dealers

The dealers do keep their tips, however the specific dealer the tip was given to does NOT get to keep that tip. They are put into a pool and divided among all dealers on the shift. So, next time you want to take care of a particular dealer, catch them after a break or give them a book/magazine with a little something just for them in it. You have to do this on the sly though, as the dealers can get in trouble for this!

Hope this helps!

DO NOT try what the guy above suggested - The dealer would lose his job and get into serious trouble if he/she accepted..

Tips/tokes are collected and divided equally by hours worked by each dealer...This may be by each 24 hour period or as a total for the week...

as an example - you have 40 dealers x 3 shifts x 8 hours = 960 dealer hours. The total tokes for the day were=$19,200 - you would divide the $19,200 by 960 = $20 each dealer would get $20 for each hour worked - plus his/her base salary which us usually $4 or $5 dollars - It works the same way if you do it on a weekly basis, it just evens out a little more because some days just naturally bring in more money(fri/sat) usually

I have only worked at hotel/casinos where the tokes were divided on a weekly basis...

It may not sound "fair" to divide tokes that way, but, it's the only way to be fair. Some games bring in more money for the dealers, natually high limit games do better than low limit ones. As a service to players casinos need to offer high limit, low limit and a variety of games so it works out for everyone...Yes, I'm well aware of the fact that some dealers are much better>more fun>friendly! -

Take this advice, before sitting down, make sure the table is having fun and the dealer is "fun"...If you walk up to an empty table and it's a game you think you might like to try, ask the dealer some questions, if he/she is interesting-informative-knowledgeable about the game, sit down and have a great time..If, on the other hand, he/she acts like you are wasting their time, move on, life is too short, find another table...
