I had three dreams last night all ending the same;me waking up sweating and frantically reaching for my boyfriend. I knew I was going to have a weird dream because before I went to sleep i felt an eery awkward feeling, like something was wrong, or had been changed. Nevertheless around 2 in the morning I felt myself dosing off. I began to dream of a regular day I was out and trying to reach for a door to let some anonomous person in. Next thing I know I'm back in my room I can see everything I get really cold then hot and I can't move, talk, or breathe. This kept happening to me three times. Each time I was reaching for something and then sent back to my paralyzed state in my bed. What do you think that means?

This is what's known as a "night terror" and it's more common than you probably realize. When our bodies go to sleep, the muscular control center of our brains disconnects from the rest of our body so that we don't act out our dreams (if this connection is not severed, then you become a sleep-walker). Sometimes, though, our body wakes up while our muscular-control center is still disconnected from the rest of our body and we are temporarily paralyzed.

When this happens to most people, they panic (because hey, they're paralyzed). What most psychiatrists recommend is that when you wake up from a dream and you're paralyzed, just remain calm (realize that what you're going through happens to most people) and try to drift back off into sleep.

What's happening to you is neither dangerous nor uncommon, so don't panic and you'll be fine.

Most likely he was aware of his surroundings while being mostly asleep. This is actually quite common, soldiers on long marches can fall asleep walking. Certain animals always sleep that way. And it makes sense that he wanted to keep some alertness (so as to not get in trouble) while also wanting to go to sleep, so his body compromised. I'm not a doctor, but I think that's what happened.

This is a normal feeling and reaction to sleep. Our muscles ARE paralyzed during REM sleep (dreaming) so it's normal to have a momentary scare as we wake up and become aware of this. Nothing to worry about.

You can still look at the metaphorical meaning in your life. How are you paralyzed? What action do you need to take in your life?

You probably feel powerless in your life. You have a goal or a dream in mind and you can't seem to reach it and it makes you feel powerless.

In your dream you are reaching for something or someone-That is a goal, a dream, or an actual person.

The fact that before you get to it you feel that paralyzed feeling which tells me that you can't achieve your goals or something is wrong in a relationship (are you having problems with your boyfriend?) and you feel you have no control or ability to reach your goal or fix your relationship

Looks like you are having problem in controlling things. Projecting paralyzed in dreams show how helpless you are in reality. In your case, your mind took over your body and you may feel like real thing while sleeping.

Perhaps, you should boost up your confidence in many aspect of life and that dream may go away
