I saw some absolutely beautiful colored eye contacts on the internet. And I was wondering, can I just walk up to my doctor and ask him if he can prescribe me colored contacts? Can I just get them if I want them?

You don't need a prescription for colored contacts.

You don't need a prescription for them, but if you truly thought that you would wear them on a more regular basis, it might be worth your while to go to a doctor to have them measure your pupil. If you have a slight astygmatisim or any other difference in measurement (as the ones you will order online are one size fits most) then you will have wasted your money. Just remember, this is going on your eye, and you want them to be comfortable - if they are for sight imorovement or not.

Good luck!

Yes...you would want to get them from an eye doctor. The two eyes you have are all you'll ever have...treat them well. They are a vital part of your body and infection can set in and cause you to loose your eye-sight if you are not careful or use them improperly. NEVER, EVER spit on them to clean them...I have seen too many friends do this, and one lost sight in one eye because of it....You must be trained in how to clean and store them properly and a board certified eye doc is the best person to teach you.

Yes. They are just contacts, so if you need contacts there is no problem getting them. If you don't need contacts, then you wouldn't need a prescription... so I'm not sure how that would work.
