What real is is up to the consciousness of the beholder. Belief - if you believe something is real then to you it is.... life is just an illusion or is it? How many dimensions are there? The one thing I know is real and has not been shown to Science, is the existence of a Soul. I Am - that is real. Love is real. This Universe is real. If you believe in something so strongly that did not exist-you can make that thing exist can't you? Therefore it is real. Belief and consciousness I Am Love...... That my dear, is real.

Nothing is real. No thing is real. This is all a Big Illusion that we are all making up as we go. That's because we don't have anything better to do, or anywhere else to go. We don't believe it because somebody else told the lot of us not to. The things that are here that we are calling real are truly just DENSe matter. Pure science exists here to help hold the illusion together, science, quantam physics, gravity, PURE ENERGY, so...we moosh it around enough and create it up in a certain way in our head as an idea or thought, then as an action through motion, then follow through with the end results of some thing made manifest "REAL." In this realm, the Realm of Relativity. E=MC2

This sounds more of a "Philosophical" question. I tell people (Jokingly) that everything is a figment of our imagination. One day we will realize this and not be here anymore. ;-)
What is real to some point of view, would be what we can see, touch and feel. But, how it may exist we can only Theorize in many situations. I have Studied the "Theory of Electronics". Yes, it considered a theory, we know electricity is real, we just not sure how it works and Theorize this. Just like Gravity, we know it is there, but, how does it work? We are reaching a point in the Study to Theorize, Magnetics may have some play, but, is this correct, we not positive. Hope this helps. I could talk for hours on this subject and never sound "real". LOL! :-D

I was drifting in and out of sleep the other day, and there were other people in the room. They were saying things, and so much of what was said was being incorporated into my dreams that I questioned what was real myself. It all seemed real. Maybe your essay should emphasize the blurry edges of reality, and the idea that reality cannot be defined because everything that is "real" to us is viewed from a human perspective. Think of what drugs do to our vision and sense of time. Think of animals; cats see in pitch blackness like we do in the middle of the day. Dogs remember you based mainly on your smell rather than your face. Time passes more slowly for some smaller mammals and insects.

Wow tough topic but I'll try and give you an idea. What is real depends on the person. For example two men sitting on a bench one blind one deaf. A bird flys in front of them chirpping. to the blind man the sound (chirpping) is real because he can hear it, but the bird does not exist. To the deaf man the bird is real, but the sound a bird makes is a mystery because he cannot hear. Now if the blind man gets to touch a bird than it becomes real to him, but the deaf man will never be able to capture the sound. We use our senses to sense what is real. That's why there is a debat on the existence of God because people cannot sense the presence of one. I hope that makes sense and helps w/ the paper.

Are you familiar with Descartes quote, "I think therefore I am" If this is for a philosophy class, you might look him up as well as Carl Jung.
If you really want to wrap your mind around some amazing things about reality, may I recommend a DVD, "Down the Rabbit Hole". The information you can glean from this is mind blowing. Check it out.

Reality is perception. Everyone has a slightly different perception of reality depending on who they are, their family, school experience and age.
So everything is real in so far as it is perceived by you now.
