Ok, I know this is the second question of the day but today I have to be at the hospital at 3:30 for a surgery to freeze my cervix. Im not all that certain of the name but i think its called cryosurgery. Now Im only 17 & Im a little nervous about the whole thing. I had the hpv virus, I got it from genes because my mom had it, thats what the doctors told me. I already had the biopsy & that made me very uncomfortable & now I have to get this surgery, can anyone tell me what all goes on, are you put to sleep for it?? & just please tell me most things I might want to know..I asked the doctor but they dont explain anything right! So all advice would be appreciated Thanks!

I had my cervix froze almost 3 years ago due to cysts I had on my cervix. My doc would not do it during my pregnancy, he made me wait until my son was 3 months old. It is pretty much like a pap test. They open up up and do some swabbing. Then my doc. put a little tube in me and placed it on my cervix. He froze it for 3 minutes, let it thaw for 3 minutes, froze it again for 3 minutes.
The procedure only lasts about 10 to 15 minutes. It is not painful, just more uncomfortable. You will have some cramping, during and afterward for a few days. You will also leak clear fluid for about 3 weeks. You can only wear a pad. NO tampons and NO sex for the 3 weeks. Try to relax, it really is not that bad.
I wish you all the best. If you have any other questions please feel free to email me. brynn_kelley@yahoo.com

I wish you the best!

I've had the freezing treatment for cervical cancer back in 1989. Don't be nervous or afraid. It's somewhat like a pap smear, just takes longer. At the time my daughter was 6 months old and she went with me to have it done. She was in the room with me the whole time; no problem. And no, they do not put u to sleep.
You're on an exam table the whole time in pap smear position. It doesn't hurt either. The docs insert a tube from the machine and u just lie there and relax. ( bring a good book, newspaper etc) The nurse pretty much kept an eye on the little one during treatment, but like i said, she was in the room with me the whole time. After the treatment; you will naturally have a liquidy discharge as the cervix thaws out and rids itself of the infected tissue. You must use pads for this, NOT TAMPONS!!!! AND PLEASE GO BACK FOR YOUR CHECKUP!

I would try and get more answers out of your dr. Ive had the cryo done and it was pretty uncomfortable. I bled and had a watery discharge for about 3 weeks. I am very surprised that you are getting this done while pregnant, i would want more answers on that. My dr only did a pap to check my cells but said if we needed to do another freezing it would be after my pregnancy..he wouldnt even do a biopsy unless absolutely necessary. But you do not get out to sleep for the procedure. BEst of luck and demand some answers because i dont know why they would do this to you while pregnant.

unless they can guarantee you it won't make you loose the baby, then tell them to WAIT!!
I had HPV and they tried to to the cryosurgery to me when I was prego too.... Unless they could guarantee me it would not make my body abort the baby, then they were not touching me....
it CAN wait, but if you do go through with it, it isn't really that bad, the dr I had didn't put me to sleep, and I don't know of any that do... it is basically a "freeze" they do all the prep as for a papsmear, but there is this tube, that has liquid nitrogen *I think* and they just "freeze" your cervix, it is kinda cold, but you really don't feel it, but you wil have cramping, or I did, when it starts to thaw out... it can be kinda gross... but it really isn't all that bad, best of luck!

A friend of mine was diagnosed with that last year and she had a procedure which sounds somewhat similar to your's and came through it just fine. Are you sure you got the virus from 'genes'? This is a 'virus' after all. Please don't take this the wrong way, but obviously you are already sexually active and not using protection.
