Well imagine if you were mentally disabled . .would you like it if someone called you retarded?! NO probley not i know i wouldn't . .so when you are disabled in their way they would like not to be refered to midgets but as small people like how you say handicaped or disabled for the mentally disabled! hope this helps you to see the difference

The correct word now is "Little Person" or "dwarf."

Because it has always been used in an derigatory way. that is just not tolerated. You probably say it to be funny at times and we laugh. So that is why it is offensive. Littlt person. or dwarf would br better.
