Probably talking about this thing:

"From the early 1600's European travellers in central Africa have reported the existence of a monstrous mystery creature. According to Abbe Proyart, a French priest who published a history of the African interior in 1776, missionaries had seen tracks with clawprints that were at least 90 centimeters ( about 3 feet ) in circumference and over 2 meters apart (a little more than 6 1/2 feet). Pygmies inhabiting the Likouala swamp
lands of the Congo claim to have seen this mysterious animal, which they call in their native tongue mokele mbembe. "

If there were only 1, how could it reproduce? There would have to be a small population for them to keep going, it couldn't have been alive the past several thousand years without others in its species. And even if there is a small population, it's unlikely that no one has caught or seen one yet.

Birds are descendants of dinosaurs, as well as several other creatures.

certainly...most scientists believe that the common bird is the closest living relative of the extinct animal called a "dinosaur"...and in fact that the bird is actually the one and only surviving dinosaur....so if the congo contains a bird species.. i would assume that your friend is correct

I have been told that there is a billionaire by the name of john hammond that is funding a trip into the congo by paleontologist Alan Grant and paleobotonist Ellie Sattler. they are to research the T-Rex that has been inhabiting the area since he was cloned from DNA found in the blood of a well preserved prehistoric mosquito. that would be great.
