When your outside USA, all the USA advertisements and media only show white or black Americans...

I've hardly ever seen any advertising, or many TV series viewed outside of USA with Hispanic and Latino people in them.

So when people go to USA they get surprised that it isn't like what they see on TV.

The only media they see is illegal Latino immigrants on TV series (Which isn't good publicity for any real USA born Latino.)

Media's fault.

because they're thinking in terms of how things are done in THEIR countries.
In Japan, for example, there are people born there, whose grandparents came from Korea -- nonetheless, to the Japanese, they are still Koreans, not Japanese, and many of them don't have Japanese citizenship, but live as foreign residents. And in general, since many Asians think their way of doing things is better than the West, they apply that mentality to other people as well. That's why to Asian tourists, you are a , not American.

Valley also put up a good point, as well.

Have you heard of the term sins of the father? Carnival Barkers used to use it to help gather a crowd in front of the freak show.

well its because thats what's in their heads. i consider myself an american even if i wasnt born here. although they might tell you that you are not american that doesnt mean that you are not american. the pot cant call the kettle black. ( i think thats how it goes)
