We dont know who that was, there is no way you or I could ever know if that was really Saddam, or the identity of anyone else for that matter. Unless you have access to the body and have a relative of his near by to do DNA testing.

They took DNA samples when Saddam Hussein was arrested. I think they will have checked it against samples provided by some of his relatives, a number of whom had had to flee Iraq and would therefore presumably have been willing to co-operate.
A doppelganger would have had difficulty in keeping up a front all the way through the interrogations and trial that intervened between Hussein's capture and his execution. He would have had to have had a huge knowledge of Hussein's life as well as being a physical look alike.
It would have had to be a very committed doppelganger to be prepared to be executed.
Finally, it appears that Saddam Hussein may well have hoped that execution was in his posthumous interests as he would become a martyr. Execution of a doppelganger would not serve this purpose as Saddam Hussein would have risked being found out if he did anything at all, so his life would not have been worth living anyway. The issue of martydom should be a concern for worry amongst the large number of people in the world, not just supporters of the Iraqi and US Governments, who believe that Saddam Hussein was an evil man because of the many people for whose torture and death he was responsible.

Are you scared that he might come knocking? What did you say to him? Well you know something just to be on the safe side we could wipe out all the 'Saddam' lookalikes. I'm sure tony and bush would be more than happy to oblige. Funny thing is the real 'threat' Osama had not been captured, but they all are breathing a sigh of relief that saddam is no longer a threat to iraq.....hmmm....Wasn't it Osama that was the terrorist that Bush said that put 'America under attack?' So what has Bush achieved by having saddam put on trial and punished?

I thought the same.
It's easy to impersonate saddam, even the local corner shop owner round here is an exact copy of him!
I think the americans still have hold of the real saddam and will keep him locked up for interrogations for the next few years before they kill him off.
obviously in this case, the dna tests were faked/total lies.

I remember reading that maternal line DNA testing was done to ascertain his ID. Likely there were also fingerprints, known identity marks such as birthmarks or scars and perhaps dental charts.

Don't you think that the US authorities have heard of DNA testing? By the way a doppelganger is not what you have translated it as. Are you German ? Are you trying to show us how educated you are? Are you just a bit of a nerd?

They took his blood before they hanged him........to doubt all the sceptics.
Well when they first found him they did DNA tests to check it was the real Saddam.......so i guess they compare it to that - which they probably compared to something on the Iraq files.
