Babies don't sleep in full 8 hour periods like adults. A 7 month old sleeping 6-7 hours would be sleeping through the night

6 hours is how the medical field defines "sleeping through the night". It probably doesn't fit your definition. You didn't mention whether or not the baby is breast fed. If she is, then it is not uncommon for her to have night wakenings. There is a big debate as to whether or not she "needs" these feedings (vs. comfort sucking, etc.) so I will refrain from that because that is not the point of my post. And when are you counting "every six hours", is that from when you put her down? That breaks down to once or twice you are getting up. She can be reverse cycling, too, waiting until the night time to get her calories. If your body is accustomed to eating at certain times, hunger will determinedly come calling every time. Things should get easier once your child transitions to solid food, or so I've been told.

If she sleeps 6 to 7 hours, that's sleeping through the night, as far as I'm concerned.

6+ hours at night is sleeping through for babies so yours definitely is. Soon she'll be able to go a little longer. My 8 month old sleeps 10-11 hours each night.

"Sleeping through the night" is different for everyone. It's a different interpretation by parents, and a different need for babies. By now, your baby should be getting most of her sleep during the night. But this sleep does not necessarily have to be continuous.
I considered my girl to be sleeping through the night when she could sleep until 7am without needing to eat. She's 13 months now. She sleeps from 7pm - 7am with maybe crying once for her pacifier.
It's a long road, but keep firm sleep and nap schedules and your baby will learn when she should be sleeping and when she should be awake. Good luck!
(p.s. sometimes waking up at night is a habit and does not mean she is hungry. Talk to your doctor about being able to tell the difference)

wow 6 hours is great for six months. my eldest never slept through at that age and my youngest did from birth, my middle one still gets up to munch now and shes 7. each child is different and they wil sleep through in there own time. i think that 8 hours is a nice length of sleep but some need more and some need less.

I believe sleeping through the night is sleeping for a solid time block, from when you put them down till morning time. My son goes to bed at 8:30pm and wakes up at 6am.
If she wakes up in the night at 3 or 4, or something like that I would not consider it sleeping through the night. She should not feel the need to wake at night to eat anymore she should be getting enough before bed.

Technically, the experts consider 5 hours straight to be "sleeping through the night."
It's totally normal for a 7 mos old to still be waking at night. Night waking is common for the entire first year.
