Reading expands imagination, improves memory, and really allows you to use your brain... You're right, I don't why more people don't read.
When I read a good book, I find it a great way to relax, and move my mind away from the everyday into worlds of possibility.
One of my favourite books of all time is "The Club Dumas" by Arturo Perez Reverte (translated from Spanish).
Its the first book I've read where I would pause after reading a passage and marvel at the skill of the author.
However, my favourite book(s) of all time are the series A Song of Ice & Fire, by George R R Martin.

I love reading, it's so relaxing to be able to sit or lie down somewhere quiet and be involved in a world other than your own. Nice to forget about any "real life" problems for a while, too! :)
I generally find that people whose parents read (or read to them as a child) read more as they're older. My mum used to read to me every night, and we used to go to the local library just about every week. I also did Year 12 English while I was still in Yr 11 - I didn't really think about it until my teacher pointed out that I probably had decent skills in English because I was so involved with reading when I was younger.
I don't really have a "favourite" book, it depends what I'm in the mood for - sometimes I want an autobiography, sometimes I just want to get lost in something fantasy. I recently read "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden and quite enjoyed that, then saw the film a while after - it's true, the film rarely lives up to the book! I still enjoyed the film, but I think the book was better :)
(Apologies for the very long-winded response, lol!)

I absolutely love to read, my girlfriend says I have too many books because I have them everywhere without adequate shelving.
I think people don't like to read because it forces you to think. There are many people whose lives would end if they could not conform to the rest of the world. Books are not for these people because on every page is a new idea, a new thought that may make one question the world around them. I don't mean to come off as arrogant but those who do not read lack the ability to think, at least in my personal experience. Don't believe me? Go to
Wal-Mart, walk around, look and listen to people and if you still can't figure out who reads and who dosen't (auto trader doesn't count) then maybe I may be overly critical; however to the readers out there you know I'm right.
My favorite book of all time is actually tied between Shakespeare's Macbeth, and George Orwell's 1984. In poetry, it is Allen Ginsberg's Howl, " I have seen the greatest minds of my generation destroyed by madness..."
I also am a fan of the star wars stories after a New Hope.

I personally love to read. My favorite thigs to read are scary stories, but I am also a huge fan of the Harry Potter books. I think people don't like to read because it can be time consuming, sometimes the reading can be boring, or even difficult for the reader to comprehend. But i think reading is excellent because it can help you to learn new words, you can make your own picture of what's going on in the story in stead of seeing the movie, and you can even become a better speaker from reading aloud. It's such a shame that people sit aoung and watch T.V. all day besides reading a good book.

Reading requires being still.... It also requires staying awake! I often get sleepy when I read, so I don't read too much. I did participate in Oprah's book club in the beginning and did more reading that year. But I've kind of lost interest since then. My all time favorite.... has been Gone With The Wind for many years. Loved it... Made the movie twice as nice for me.

I think the reason a lot of people don't like to read it that they are not very good at it, or their parents didn't encourage reading when the kids were young, or people just don't take the time to choose books that would hold their interest. My favorite book is Sacajawea, about the Native American girl who traveled with the Lewis and Clark expedition, all 1340 pages of it.

I love to read and I have soooooo many favorites ranging from children's stories, romance, mystery, just love it! I would have to say my favorite book of all time would be "A Walk to Remember" by Nicholas Sparks, such a sweet story. I think people that don't like to read, were not read to enough as a child, and there folks didn't read much either....who knows

I go through phases when it comes to reading. Sometimes, I can't read more than I have to daily for my job. Other times, I can't read enough books. I'm in a reading phase right now, thank god! As for my favorite book, I'm going to have to buy a new copy as I have no idea what happened to the old one, but it's the Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley.

oh my god reading is what i do when i am bored of listing to teachers at school and i get in a lot of trouble because of it from my mom because my grades go down because of it and i read before i go to sleep all the time! i sometimes fall asleep reading because it gets to be about 2:00am before i set the book down. anyway my favorite author is Lurlene McDaniel. She writes novels about teens facing life illness. she says on the back cover in most of her books that they are hard-hitting,realistic,and that they leave readers with hope. Most of them have a love story or friendship dealing with the character or the charters friend. they are good books and i would read another but i have all the book she has out right now.
