Turn off services you really don't need.

Go to START and then RUN and type msconfig then click OK or hit enter.

Go to the STARTUP tab and uncheck whatever you don't need at startup. ALL THESE THINGS RUNNING HERE ARE USING RAM. Thus slowing down your computer.

Be sure to leave you antivirus and firewall checked.

The easiest way is to get more RAM memory. The next would be to upgrade your CPU to a faster one. Finally you could get a larger faster hard drive... in that order.

If you really want speed buy a new computer with the fastest CPU and at least 1 GB RAM or 2 GB if you can afford it and a larger hard drive.

Here are the numbers of things you can either do:
Get a faster or more memory sticks to add on.( 6 - 500 quid depending on the quality.)
You can buy a faster mother board. (you're looking like 300 quid and up
For more graphics, get a high resolution video card - (around 100 quid and up)

These are my estimates if that helps. Remember to call someone who knows about computers more to add them on.

1) Defrag your hard drive.
Go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Defragmenter.

2) Disable all programs that run in the background from startup.

Click Start | Run. Type in MSCONFIG. Press "Enter" key. Click the Startup tab. Click the "Disable All" button. Click "Apply". Click "OK". Click to restart you PC.

3) Increase the amount of RAM that your PC has. Buy more memory and install it yourself or take your PC to a PC shop.

From your desk, if by a window, and from the 2nd floor, open window, and drop. Even if only for a few seconds, it will go very fast. I once had a friend who put his on a skateboard on Geary Street in San Francisco to watch it go down the hill very fast, but we don't talk anymore

Clean out your cooks and temp files. Open IE, click on Tools, click on Internet Options. You can then delete the cookies, temporary internet files, and history (should you wish).

I also defrag my system. Click on All programs, then Accessories, then System Tools. Here you will find Disk Clean up as well as Defrag.

Good luck.

Be more specific.
Start a new question and list you computer specs.
Then we'll be able to tell you whether you should upgrade the hardware or you just need to clean it up.
