I'm a college student looking to get rid of my Apple iBook G4 because I'm so sick of the mechanical problems (I think I got a lemon.) I need a laptop mostly for internet, papers, music, and photos. Looking to spend less than $1500, and for a computer with possibly minimum 17". I like the HP dv9000 series right now, anyone know of it? Have problems with HP? What's recommended as far as laptops?

To answer the Apple question, I took it in so many times for repair, and now my warranty is finally up. They wanted me to pay $300 to replace a trackpad that was already replaced when I first bought it. I told them to keep the trackpad, I was going to look for a better computer.

Hi there!!
i think it would be great if you buy a Dell inspiron 6400 or 1501, and if you want a 17 inch screen go for the inspiron 9400.

now there are some dell precision laptops which are good for video-editing and doing graphical stuff and using programs like cad, the Precision M90 is good too, check it out.

go to www.dell.com and select whatever you want, then just configure it to your needs and buy one.

get a +1 year warranty too so if you have any problem with it they'll fix it for you.

i don't know about HPs cause i have never had any of those.

try to get one with a core 2 duo (+1.83ghz) - get 1 Gb ram and a good graphic card, also a 120gb harddisk would be great.

Well it depends on your preference. Do you want another MAC or do you mind going with a PC?

We use IBM Thinkpads, specifically the Thinkpad T60 2623-DAU and upgrade these with 1GB of RAM. I purchased about 20 last year. These retail for about $1,500 education price and you should be able to get an education discount through your school.

The laptop comes with a standard three year warranty. It is a 15" model though.

Here's a few 17" models from www.govconnection.com from around $1,500.

Whatever you go with make sure you get a 3 year warranty. Truthfully you'll probalby find better deals from a manufacturer. If you do decide to go with a MAC visit www.apple.com/education

I would recommend a black MacBook.

By the way, have you contacted Apple about the problems with your iBook? I got a lemon iBook G3, and they were extremely helpful, repairing it several times and finally replacing it, all at no cost to me.

go to a local circuit city or best buy, i went their 2 weeks ago and i saw a 3000 dollar computer for 700. Anyway it doesn't matter what brand just what parts are in it. like.....

-atleast a 100 gb hard drive ( to hold your music and pics and such)
-atleast a 2.0 ghz processor or higher ( to run multiple programs)
- atleast 512mb of ram
-and for music and movies i like a cd/dvd burner

For that price you can find a good laptop and under it!

like...

although i wouldnt be too hung up on that 17 inch screen!

good decision on the mac too, although i dont like them cause they are too different, (cant figure em out)
